The KNMI article explains that not all heat feels the same, even if temperatures are similar. A dry 30°C day with wind feels very different from a humid 25°C day without wind. To better assess how heat affects people, KNMI, together with TNO, RIVM, and VU, is developing a new index called "hittekracht" (heat strength). This index translates the complex Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT)—which combines temperature, humidity, solar radiation, and wind—into a simple scale from 1 to 10. This makes it easier for the public and professionals like athletes and emergency workers to understand and respond to heat stress.Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Employers across Japan will be required to protect their workers from heat illness under new legislation that took effect on 1st June 2025.
The legislation is a national-level policy on heat safety for employees, revising a ministerial ordinance of Japan's Industrial Safety and Health Law.
Under the new rules, employers are required to implement measures to spot and aid workers who are showing symptoms of heatstroke, Bloomberg reported.Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream. -
