To better assess how heat affects people, KNMI, together with TNO, RIVM, and VU, is developing a new index called "hittekracht" (heat strength). This index translates the complex Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT)—which combines temperature, humidity, solar radiation, and wind—into a simple scale from 1 to 10. This makes it easier for the public and professionals like athletes and emergency workers to understand and respond to heat stress.
