This study examines opportunities to integrate gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) considerations into Guyana’s drainage and irrigation (D&I) sector, to ensure that future diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the diverse needs of vulnerable groups, including women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and smallholder farmers. The study provides an overview of national GESI trends, analyzes the agriculture sector through a social inclusion lens, maps key stakeholders, and identifies light, actionable recommendations aligned with NDIA’s existing mandate. Vulnerable groups in Guyana’s agriculture sector, including women, youth, Indigenous communities, persons with disabilities, and smallholder farmers, continue to face barriers to land ownership, access to irrigation and flood protection, participation in water governance, and availability of financial or extension services. The findings and recommendations presented are intended to support NDIA in aligning with national GESI commitments and strengthening the equity and resilience of its drainage and irrigation services. They are non-prescriptive and designed to complement the Authority’s operational priorities while promoting more inclusive and contextually relevant outcomes.
